Taken for a loafer when he was picked up by the French Police on Avenue Edward VII near Poste Mallet station on the morning after his disappearance, the partially-blind doctor had been robbed of his pyjama-top while pacing the streets at night, and was incarcerated in a semi-conscious condition. His wife was not notified until the evening, and he did not recognize her when she came to the jail.” Gorovitz was from Warsaw; his wife Antonina Vasilievna was born in Odessa, in 1883.
