- Notes // Примечания: From Samara. Chairman of the Russian Emigrants’ Committee and active member of many associations. Lived at 208/107 Nanyang Road with wife Lydia Pavlovna, b. 1885 in Saint Petersburg. ERC 71437. At the time of his assassination by an unidentified gunman, Metzler had been manager of the motor car and casualty insurance department of American Asiatic Underwriters. He came to China in 1912 as attaché to the Russian Legation in Peking. Then he was in charge of Russian consulates in Sharasoume and Kohdo, Chinese and Mongolian Altai. He returned to Peking in 1915 and in 1917 was sent to Shanghai as Vice-Consul. After the recognition of the USSR in June 1924, Metzler left diplomatic service and immersed himself in commercial activities. He joined the Far Eastern branch of the Rossia insurance company of Copenhagen as assistant manager for the Far East. In view of his sudden death, all entertainment activities of the Russian community were cancelled.
