- Notes // Примечания: Survived by wife Julia Julievna, b. 1892 in Moscow, who worked as a governess for the US Consul in Shanghai. “The cause of death was heart failure brought about by pleurisy and attendant complications. The late Capt. Polynine was the son of a well-known professor of the Helsingfors University, Mandelstam, but owing to the exigencies of the war and for patriotic reasons assumed the name he bore. Deceased held a commission in the Russian Artillery, graduating from the Constantinovsky Artillery School, Petrograd, and fought with distinction on the main front. Later he was appointed instructor of artillery in his alma mater. During the Bolshevik revolution, in 1918, he went to Harbin where he was connected with the Far Eastern Insurance Co., arriving in Shanghai in 1922. During recent years, he was in the employ of the Electricity Department. He had a large circle of friends among the non-Russian community, and was a member of Shanghai Club, Cercle Sportif Francais and Russian Ex-Officers Club. He devoted much time and care to the interests of the Union of Russian Army and Navy Men.”
