- Notes // Примечания: “Tony Popovitch, manager and part owner of Savoy Hotel and old resident of Shanghai passed out at Country Hospital shortly after 8 o’clock last evening. Antonio Popovitch, a native of Dalmatia, has been in the Far East for the past thirty years, identified with scores of enterprises. A pioneer in the cinema industry in Shanghai, he was first owner of the old Bijou Theatre, later owner of Apollo Theatre, featuring first films as well as bringing vaudeville companies from the US and England. Mr Popovitch was in Harbin in 1911 when an old friend, owner of Savoy Hotel, became ill and sent the man he thought best able to manage that hostelry. Under the new management the Savoy has become one of the landmarks of Shanghai and has been most successful. The late Mr Popovitch has a brother and two sisters in Dalmatia.”
