  • Notes // Примечания: “An unloaded rifle in the hands of a comrade of Shanghai Volunteer Corps brought death to young M. Rapaport, a 16-year-old lad serving as a messenger at Military Headquarters here, when the weapon was accidentally discharged during a friendly scuffle, a cartridge having been left unknowingly in the breech. The accident occurred at 4.30 in a room of the upper floor of the Municipal Building, where Rapaport was chaffing with his old friend, Private A. H. King, a member of the B Company. Private King had left the breach in the cartridge of his weapon after returning from a trip to his home in Dixwell Road, in the danger area. Although rushed to the hospital, the boy who lived with his parents in an alley off Rue du Roi Albert, died a few hours later.”
