In summer 1934 he gambled away some company money and lost his job; then he mixed some strychnine with lemonade and drank it; his body was found at Keswick Road. Before committing suicide he posted several letters to the Shanghai Zaria newspaper, Emigrants’ Committee and the police: ‘Vadim Pavlovich Sedletsky is taking his life voluntarily after the sad events of the night before; he has to die.’ and ‘I am not the first to take my life; we are thousands. Please bury me by Orthodox rites and pray for my soul.’” Survived by father, mother and sister in Harbin. He was a graduate of Horvat’s gymnasium and once a student of Harbin Polytechnic, but he quit his studies because of material needs and came to Shanghai. He was buried at Hungjao Road cemetery by the Orthodox rites; none of the relatives were present.
