- Notes // Примечания: “His death ended untimely the career of a man who was not only much respected by the foreign and Chinese communities in Shanghai but one who during his lifetime rendered great service to his fellow men. He was 55 years of age and is survived by wife (Nadejda Ilyinichna, b. Kazaroff, 1885 in Belostok) and son. A native of Poland, then a province of Russia, Dr Shishlo graduated from the Imperial Medical Academy in St Petersburg in 1903 and joined the medical staff of the Russian Navy. He was in Messina in 1908 when 77,000 people lost their lives in a disastrous earthquake; for his untiring work in helping sufferers he was decorated by the King of Italy. He was a pupil of Dr Ivan Pavloff and in 1910 obtained his MD after several years of research work. Before he came to Shanghai he was in Vladivostok. In Shanghai he built a large private practice and was member of Shanghai Medical Association. He rose to the rank of Captain in SVC.” “He was deported from Tsingtao three years prior for an alleged plot of bombing the Soviet Consulate.” He had been drinking and fighting with his wife for several months about their son who had run away without approval “and recently gained the headlines in Shanghai when he went for a wild ride in Hungjao Road and fired several shots from a revolver into the air.” On the night of Dr Shishlo’s death he was found in his office lying on the floor, grasping for syringe.
