Last January, Major Slavetsky resigned from his command and started on a journey to deliver a petition to the authorities in Peking concerning the mistreatment of White Russians in the Chihli army. During the journey, Slavetsky disappeared and his family received the news he was shot in Tsining; the whereabouts of the body are still unknown. According to his relatives, Major Slavetsky has not received his salary for more than a year, and the amount owed to him was about $2,000. He leaves a mother and a grandmother in Russia, for whom he was the main support; his sister and fiancée are in Shanghai.”
