Lived at 105 Nanchang Road. “Mr. Joseph Tchakalian died in Shanghai on February 17, 1959, at the age of 77, and a few months previously I assisted him in liquidating his business – a confectionery factory and a store. The liquidation was completed by transfering the assets against liabilities to a government-recommended public and private concern, and as the book liabilities were exceeding the assets, Mr Tchakalian retired without any compensation. Prior to his death he was living on the proceeds from the sale of his household furniture and personal effects, at the same time suffering considerable expenses for medical treatment, hospitalization, etc.” [Letter of S.
