- Notes // Примечания: “Ivan Tomilov, accused of the murder of his wife Anna Tomilova in the kitchenette of his own apartment at 10 am September 28, claimed she died as a result of an accident after his act of self-defense in trying to ward off the meat chopper pointed toward him by his wife. Before the tragedy happened, the relation between the couple was strained. When the accused went into the kitchenette to light a cigarette, a verbal quarrel between the couple followed their conversation about their household affairs. The deceased charge the accused with being unfaithful to her, and the accused scolded her for letting out a part of the their apartment, including his own bed during his absence, to accommodate people seeking a secret rendezvous. The wife made a gesture of pointing the chopper at him, but the accused took it away from her and stabbed her neck with it, cutting her windpipe and causing her to die from loss of breath. After the death of his wife Tomilov, an experienced police officer, tried to shift the blame by reporting to the police station that his wife had been murdered by some ruffian during his absence. But the reports of the neighbors did not tally with his statement, and within 48 hours the accused was prevailed upon to confess the crime.” Tomilov, likely named Ivan Fedorovitch, b. 1907-03-18 in Yenisei, Siberia, worked as a fitter; ERC 121919.
