Became involved in an armed conflict between pro-Japanese tax office officials and ticket office employees of Gongwutai Theatre, controlled by the gangster Huang Jinrong. He was shot and died alongside his colleague Milochenkoff, aged 19. Altogether 21 persons were wounded or killed, including 2 dead Russians and 6 dead Chinese. The funeral was preceded by a big procession and both Russians received honors as heroes.
