- Notes // Примечания: Xenia Abaza had been married to the Vice-Consul of the USSR in Shanghai, Richard Iosifovich Elleder, for one month. She had arrived in Shanghai with her first husband, surnamed Mikhailovsky, who was with the marine artillery and soon left for Australia. Xenia worked as a dancing girl when she met R. O. Elleder; they married in a Catholic church and moved into a place on Rue Lafayette, together with Xenia’s mother. On the day of her death, Xenia was visiting her friends and borrowed a car to take a ride; along the way she dropped by a pharmacy on Avenue Joffre and purchased wine and morphine. Later, as the party continued, friends noticed her strange condition and called a doctor, who sent her to the General Hospital, where she died. (Vice-Consul Elleder was the one responsible for ransacking the interior decor and selling the antique Tsarist furniture at the ex-Russian Consulate when he was appointed there in 1924.)
