[...] Retiring from military service in 1906, he interested himself in the mining industry and soon became owner of the Cheremhovo coal mines in Siberia, which were supplying a considerable portion to the Trans-Siberian line. His mines nationalized by the Soviet Government he was forced into exile and since 1917 resided in China.”
