- Notes // Примечания: “The only accomplished sculptor in the Russian colony of Shanghai,“ Kamensky studied in Paris under Rodin. Since 1920 he lived and taught art In Harbin. Having relocated to Shanghai in 1931, he initially taught at the Hangzhou School of Fine Arts, but grew increasingly nostalgic, started drinking and eventually stopped working. In early 1937, Kamensky was chosen to create a bust of the poet Alexander Pushkin, to be erected in a public square in the French Concession at the initiative of the Russian community. Kamensky’s love of drinking, however, led to the job being given to Victor Podgoursky. Bio at Building Russian Shanghai. Bio at artrz.ru.
