A young Russian bodyguard in his employ was fatally wounded when the armed men opened fire from behind the car. He toppled in the roadway where he was found later by the Settlement police motorcycle patrol, while Lord Li and his Russian chauffeur made their escape into the former’s palatial residence Brookside Lodge, 441 Avenue Haig. The kidnappers made their escape in a car with false number plates.” “Kousnetsov was admitted into the Country Hospital where an X-ray examination proved that one bullet had entered the shoulder blade and one the lower part of the back.” His condition was named critical and the patient was called “dying” but there has not been a follow-up about his death.
