Kuznetzoff was “dragged from the blazing building by another Russian employee, Nicolas Melnikoff, who rushed into the premises to save his friend. Following his rescue, Mr Kouznetsoff, badly burned, only lived a few hours.” “Son of the ataman of the Amur Cossack Clan, he studied at the Khabarovsk Cadet Corps and during the evacuation from Vladivostok became victim of an explosion, this costing him his leg. Arriving in Shanghai with the Cadet Corps, he graduated in this city and was at once obliged to look for employment. He worked in the newspapers Shanghai Zaria and Slovo and subsequently entered Cathay Painters as an accountant. In spite of his loss of a leg and general frailty of health, Mr Kouznetzoff attracted attention by his exceptional diligence and for two years found time to attend evening course at the Russian Business College. Only a month had passed since he finished this college with a diploma of a Chartered Accountant.
