- Notes // Примечания: Died of typhoid fever contracted while unlawfully kidnapped by Japanese-compliant police and imprisoned in Pootung for two weeks with around 300 Chinese prisoners. After the release Krutikoff was weak from malnutrition and illness, and died soon after being placed in a hospital. He was survived by wife Mavra Abrosimovna, b. 1915 in Zabaikalsk, and two sons, a two-year old Alex and a 7-months Constantine. Lived at 144 Baikal Road, in a room behind the family store. ERC 61959. “A tragedy which remains unnoticed occurred in a Russian family residing in Wayside district. This tragedy illustrates the defencelessness and difficulty in obtaining legal protection, in which live Russian emigrants residing north of the Soochow Creek. It appears one can be abducted from the International Settlement, thrown into a gaol, infected with typhoid fever – all this for having incurred petty debts. As a result, an honest working man has lost his life, leaving his widow and little children to the mercy of god...”
