- Notes // Примечания: Born in Simferopol, she served in an infirmary during the World War and came to Shanghai in 1920. “Obsessed with financial worries and suffering from a nervous breakdown, Touliakova (Tuliakova) endeavoured to drown her sorrows in vodka. She imbibed so freely yesterday that she was rendered unconscious and later complications set in, which resulted in her death from alcohol poisoning.” “A Russian woman by the name Touliakova, a former actress, was found dead in her room at 10 Linda Terrace in peculiar circumstances. It appears the previous evening she had reported to the police that someone had robbed her of all her money. Yesterday morning the police responded by visiting the house and found that the woman, left without means of subsistence, had taken a lot of vodka during the previous evening and that her death was due to excessive drinking. The deceased, 36 years of age, was a nurse during the war. She came to Shanghai some time in 1920 and had no relatives here.” Touliakova was known to be without means and prone to begging. She was buried at the municipality’s expense.
